About Us
A Free Flow, Play Based, Eco-Nursery in the heart of Southsea.
Philosophy
Southsea Nature Nursery is an independent, session run, plastic-free pre-school for 2-5 year olds, located in the stunning grounds of St John’s College, Southsea. Accepting Government Free-Entitlement Funding and open five days a week, term-time only, the nursery is owned and managed by Amber Dyer, founder of the extremely successful "Baffins Nature Nursery" who is a graduate in child education with over 20 years experience of working in and managing nurseries and ‘outstanding’ rated settings.
In 2013 Amber set up the first Forest Schools toddler group in Portsmouth. She believes passionately in the concept of child-initiated play and outdoor learning and is a strong advocate of the principles of the Forest Schools movement and the teachings of Rudolf Steiner and Maria Montessori.
In 2015 Amber established Baffins Nature Nursery, which was Portsmouth's first plastic-free eco-nursery. Since this time Amber and her team have delivered their unique approach to education to over 300 children in the Portsmouth area and the success of the nursery gained recognition in the form of a successful first Ofsted inspection and has led to Amber also receiving the award for Business woman of the Year in the Emerging Business category at the Pamozi Creatives Awards 2020.
Southsea Nature Nursery offers a free-flow, play based environment where children can access indoor and outdoor play opportunities in all weathers. It offers a wide range of innovative play and learning opportunities, created wherever possible from natural resources. The children will be encouraged to learn about sustainability and the importance of looking after our natural world through the cultivation of plants and growing and harvesting food to eat.
At Nature Nursery We are strong believers that all children are unique and will all develop differently during the different stages of their lives. We believe that every play opportunity is a learning opportunity for your child and therefore allow children to be led by their own interests and grow and develop at their own pace. We mix all age ranges together from the age of 2-5 allowing children to learn from each other, care for each other and grow with each other.
"Once a child has been shown what the natural world is, it will live with them forever."
David Attenborough
